PHOEBE is proud being a partner of the very innovative EMPOWER project coordinated by the KIOS Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus. The project consortium comprises a great mixture of organisation types from Cyprus, from Research/Academia, Industry, Government/Policy-making, key end-users of solutions, marketing/business experts, etc.
The project started officially on 1 May 2019, while the consortium partners met on 6 June 2019 and kicked-off the core part of the work. In its 3 years of operation, the EMPOWER project will:
A. Evolve the Cyprus power system by developing of cutting-edge solutions based on ICT (e.g., innovative real-time monitoring and control tools, storage solutions).
B. Increase the share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the energy mix of Cyprus, offering improved monitoring and control capabilities in combination with the flexibility obtained by the integration of different storage solutions. This way the maximum allowable installed capacity of RES in the islanded power system of Cyprus will be extended, without risking the system integrity.
C. Overcome the economic crisis and improve the quality of life in Cyprus by offering great socio-economic benefits through modernizing the Cyprus power system.
D. Build on a high quality, complementary and multidisciplinary consortium to create essential synergies between members of the quadruple helix as required for achieving real innovation and impact locally and internationally, build a critical mass of researchers, and develop young scientists for performing high-level research.
The Project INTEGRATED/0916/0035 is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research and Innovation Foundation with 1 million euro.
